If you’re one of the many Americans who have a long commute to work, you’re already painfully aware of the negatives. But, did you know it could be bad for your health? New research found that a longer work commute was associated with higher weight and lower fitness levels.
The study gathered information on participants’ fitness, physical activity, BMI, cholesterol, blood pressure and more. Those with a longer commute had higher BMIs and blood pressure and also reported less frequent physical activity. While the results do not show that commuting directly contributes to these health effects, it does raise questions as to why.
