Orion is proud to announce Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis as the May focus of our Orion Gives Back program.
Founded in 1983, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing from the city of Memphis and surrounding areas, while making decent housing for all people a matter of conscience and action.
Habitat works in partnership with families in need of adequate shelter to build simple, decent homes. Habitat homes are built with quality, locally-available building materials and are modestly-sized; large enough for the homeowner family’s needs but small enough to keep construction and maintenance costs to a minimum. The homes are then sold to Habitat’s partner families, at no profit and with no interest charged. Partner families invest hundreds of hours of their own labor — sweat equity — into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving “Fund for Humanity” that is used to build more homes. The labor of volunteers and partner families, efficient building methods, modest house sizes and no-profit loans make it affordable for low-income families to purchase Habitat houses.
Memphis Habitat is one of more than 1,700 affiliates in the USA and 550 international affiliates that build in more than 3,000 communities throughout the world.
