The Orion Teacher Awards  are our way of honoring exemplary teachers at our adopted school, Kate Bond Elementary, and saying “thank you” for all their hard work.

We’re happy to announce Patricia “Patti” Yancy as May’s Teacher of the Month!  Ms. Yancy has been teaching for 18 years.  She has spent the last 11 of those at KBE, teaching Kindergarten.  Lisa Aven, KBE’s Title I PLC Coach, said Yancy was selected because, “She is a great leader in our school. She is always willing to help any student or teacher who needs assistance. She comes early and stays late to make sure she has everything in order to meet the individual needs of her students.”

Congratulations also to Laurie Harmon who was nominated KBE Teacher of the Year!  Ms. Harmon has been teaching for 22 years, 11 of those at KBE.  She teaches 3rd grade Math, Social Studies and Science.  Of Harmon, Lisa Aven stated, “She is a dedicated teacher. She is always willing to share her expertise with others in the school as well as teachers in our district. She provides hand-on instruction for her students. She is always involving the students in the lesson. Her lessons are creative and differentiated in order to include all students at their individual levels of learning. Year after year her students demonstrate growth in all the subjects she teaches; Math, Science and Social Studies. She is always willing to try something new and challenge herself as well as her students. She has very high standards for her students and they reach and exceed her expectations. She is a joy to have as a teacher and we are very fortunate to have her.”
