Friday Fun-day!

This Friday, the Orpheum is delivering a double-dose of fun: a matinée showing of James and the Giant Peach, followed that evening by Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban.

james and the giant peachJames and the Giant Peach is a wonderfully surreal adventure about a little boy who finds a world of magic inside an enormous, enchanted peach. Nightmare Before Christmas director Henry Selick delivers again with remarkable visuals in this live-action/stop-motion combo that audiences young and old will love.  The movie starts at 1:30, but the doors open an hour before for pre-movie fun in the lobby. There won’t be any giant peaches but our friends at the Orpheum came up with some special guests to celebrate the movie’s theme: the Mid South Food Bank will be there to take food donations – each item you bring will get you a $5 discounted ticket! The Memphis Farmers Market will be there too, with info about their weekly fresh foods specials – including exactly the right weekend to buy your own giant, juicy (but sadly not magical) peaches.

harry potterIf you can’t make the matinée, come that evening for the third installment of one of the most beloved movie series of all time: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Harry, Ron and Hermione return to Hogwarts to battle dementors, conjure patronuses, and experiment with time turning. There are sure to be lots of wizard robes, wands and hats in the house! As always, come early – the Orpheum has  again planned great pre-show fun. This time, you’ll have the chance to get sorted into your Hogwarts house and find out what your patronus is (you’ll even receive a souvenir button made on the spot to remember it!) And you must add your feet and signature to the giant Marauder’s Map of the Orpheum – while solemnly swearing you are up to no good!
