Orion Gives Back: One Memphis

The December 2015 Orion Gives Back recipient is One Memphis / Operation Christmas Basket.

Orion is once again a proud participant in the Operation Christmas Basket program. It is an amazing, loving display of Memphians giving back to their most in-need neighbors during the holiday season and we couldn’t be more happy to do our small part to help!

Operation Xmas

How does it work?  Basket recipients are identified with the support of a number of community partners including the TN Department of Human Services, the Aging Commission of the Mid-South, MIFA, and the City of Memphis Office of Youth Services. With the assistance of the TN department of Labor & Workforce Development, a particular focus is also placed on assisting families that have experienced a recent job loss.

Recipients are mailed out postcards in November. Then hundreds of volunteers spend the days leading up to the event assembling and packing thousands of baskets and boxes with holiday food items donated by local companies and sponsors. The day of the event, volunteers work a nearly 5-hour assembly line to distribute the food.

This year, Operation Christmas Basket takes place on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Cook Convention Center.
