Last week Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley paid a special visit to our Hacks Cross branch. Mike is a star not just for his skills on the court, but for the work he does in our community when off it. He is the spokesperson and a major fundraiser for Methodist Healthcare’s Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center. It was for this cause that he visited to receive a $15,000 donation from Orion CEO Daniel Weickenand.

Conley adopted the charity years ago as his personal favorite and was instrumental in raising the funds necessary to open the center. MHCSCC is one of only three centers in America focused on Sickle Cell patients. It serves as both a preventative outpatient clinic and as a dedicated emergency infusion unit specifically for adult Sickle Cell patients – a service desperately needed in Memphis, as we have the second highest population of adult sickle cell patients in the United States.
Orion has made supporting the community part of who we are. We couldn’t be more proud to add the center to our growing list of philanthropic recipients, and wish Conley luck in all his future fundraising efforts on their behalf.
