The Orion Teacher of the Month Award is our way of honoring exemplary teachers at our adopted school, Kate Bond Elementary, and saying “thank you” for all their hard work.

January’s award winner is Porsche Matthews.

Ms. Matthews started her teaching career 9 years ago.  She came to Kate Bond Elementary in 2013, where she has made her mark as a beloved 2nd grade teacher.  Her peers describe her as a standout who is always seeking ways to improve and who willingly embraces new teaching strategies.  She lives by Maya Angelou’s quote, “If you don’t like something, change it.  If you can’t change it, change your attitude.”

My favorite thing about teaching is positive outcomes.  It is wonderful to know that I impact my students on a daily basis and I actually witness improvement at the end of each school year.
